Many children at some point in their lives dream of running off to the circus. Fourth graders at BMPRSS actually did! Following a week of training where they were tutored by staff from Circus Unlimited, students showed off what they had learned during a special performance for family and friends on March 21.

Author Sasha Forman recently visited BMPRSS to introduce the students, or reintroduce as some have read it, to her book “The Hoop Troop,” and its inspiring story of overcoming challenges.

During a recent reception held on March 1, in the school building that bears his name, friends, colleagues, mentees and members of the Rye Brook community gathered to remember the late Mr. Ponterio, who passed away one year ago this month. In addition to the many stories that were shared, those in attendance were the first to see and try out a new bench at the school that was placed in Mr. Ponterio’s honor.

BMPRSS students were in for a real treat as a group of their classmates took to the stage to present a performance relating to Diwali—what it is all about, how its celebrated, and just how much fun it can be!

Bruno M. Ponterio Ridge Street School students were introduced to a great way to start a Monday — Klezmer music! During a toe tapping assembly, hosted by the PTA, students literally got out of their seats and clapped and danced to the music of Pushcart Kapelye, a Klezmer band consisting of musicians Meghan Fitzgerald, Harry Sweet, Judy Sweet, Ethan Hasiuk and Elliott Kurtz.

The new Story Walk at the Bruno M. Ponterio Ridge Street School was a big hit during its opening as families gathered for a good story and to enjoy a beautiful evening.
