School Nurse
rssnurse@blindbrook.orgOur school nurses are responsible for all matters relating to individual student health issues, including verifying medical excuses, monitoring individual student health matters, emergency intervention, and special programs related to student health.
The BMPRSS Nurse is the main point of contact for:
- Parents to inform the school of children's absences
- Assessing and caring for infirm children during the school day
- Contacting parents to report children's illnesses and injuries
- Maintaining and dispensing children's medications
- Managing health maintenance activities, such as lice checks
- Ensuring that food brought into the classroom (i.e., for parties) is nut-free
We are fortunate to have part-time nurses during the day to assist the Nurse in the Health Office. We are lucky to have Ms. Tara Prendergast and Ms. Frannie Willsey join us throughout the year! You can contact the Health Office at rssnurse@blindbrook.org.
Flu, Conjunctivitis, Strep, & Stomach Virus:
We are aware that from time to time cases of the flu, conjunctivitis, strep, and stomach virus become present in our school. Please be aware that our custodial staff works diligently to clean the building appropriately. They have been made aware of products and solutions approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and will be using these products to clean our facilities. Surfaces such as tables, chairs, floors, bathrooms and other common shared spaces are given extra attention.
We would also like to remind families of our school practice regarding students returning to school after such illnesses. Adhering to these practices not only helps your child, but can help prevent the spread of these illnesses in the school.
Before returning to school:
- Please make sure your child has not vomited for at least 24-hours of the last reported instance of vomiting.
- Please make sure your child is “fever free” for at least 24-hours without the use of any medication.
- Please make sure that if your child has strep throat and is on antibiotics, he/she cannot return to school before 24-hours after the first dose of antibiotics has been given.
- Please make sure that your child has taken medicine for bacterial conjunctivitis for at least 24-hours after diagnosis.
